LinkedIn, the professional social network, has launched a new tool called Hiring Assistant, designed to handle key recruitment tasks using artificial intelligence. This AI agent is intended to simplify a range of duties for recruiters, such as transforming brief notes into comprehensive job descriptions, sourcing candidates, and managing candidate engagement.

As LinkedIn’s first dedicated AI agent, Hiring Assistant marks a significant development for the platform, which has previously utilized AI primarily in its backend to recommend connections. With Hiring Assistant, LinkedIn aims to assist recruiters directly in one of its core business areas. Currently, this tool is accessible to a select group of clients, including companies like AMD, Canva, Siemens, and Zurich Insurance, with broader availability expected soon.

LinkedIn’s integration of advanced AI features, facilitated by its partnership with Microsoft and OpenAI, has led to several recent tools. These tools, leveraging OpenAI's GPT model, provide users with career guidance, marketing assistance, and profile enhancement. Hiring Assistant, however, is the most substantial application aimed directly at LinkedIn’s B2B recruitment clients.

The tool allows recruiters to upload full job descriptions or simply outline specific requirements. This information is then processed to create a list of qualifications and a pool of suitable candidates. LinkedIn’s algorithms identify candidates based on skills rather than traditional criteria, such as location or educational background. Additionally, the Hiring Assistant can connect with third-party applicant tracking systems, with all data analysis based on LinkedIn’s extensive database, which includes profiles of 1 billion users, 68 million companies, and over 41,000 skills.

Future updates will expand Hiring Assistant’s capabilities to manage interview scheduling, candidate follow-ups, and other routine tasks, further reducing administrative workload. These enhancements align with LinkedIn’s broader AI strategy, as AI-driven tools have already contributed to the growth of LinkedIn’s Talent Solutions, which surpassed $7 billion in revenue as of July 2023.

While it remains to be seen how widely recruiters will adopt this technology, LinkedIn remains committed to advancing its AI offerings. According to VP of Engineering Erran Berger, LinkedIn is focused on refining the Hiring Assistant to improve user experience and solve practical challenges faced by members and clients.
